Fall…ing behind, not failing

In March, I started the 100 days to summer challenge, my goal get more fit, strengthen my routine, drop a few pounds.. well, summer has come and gone and here I am .3 lbs heavier than when I started the challenge.. I had dropped 5 pounds then I picked them up again.. progress, not perfection..

It got me thinking about other “challenges” I have set my sights on this year.. I’m doing the 52 book challenge again this year, I’ve done it for the past few years and every year, I fell short of the 52.. but each year I read more books than the year before. Today I sit at 40 books read with 14 weeks left. In order to achieve this goal I will need to read .85 books per week through the end of the year. Completely doable.

I joined another hike challenge this year. Last year and the year before I was doing the #52hikechallenge, this year I’m doing the #hikers365challenge. Miles not number of hikes is key. As of today I have hiked 224.71 miles.

I need 140.29 miles to achieve this goal by year’s end, or 10 miles per week. Doable, but it will take a concerted effort to pull off.

Why do we set goals or participate in challenges? For me, it is something to help motivate me to do things that are important to me. Crazy that we sometimes need to be reminded to do things we love…

I’ve decided to take this season to make a concerted effort not just reach for goals but to achieve and appreciate what the goal represents. Why have I decided to aim for this particular thing.

Today was a perfect example. Tunnel to Towers. Pouring rain, windy, chilly, yucky…But I did it anyway because I was physically able. We were taught, if you can, you must.

It wasn’t about showing up and finishing a run. It was about who it was for. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²βœοΈπŸ™

Always remember.

  1. Hello, it is rather a gray drippy day here in my corner of the world today. When you chatted re: weight loss/gain, I agreed saying I really hate it when I manage to lose a few pounds, and then they have the unmitigated gall to find me again and to add insult to injury have the audacity to bring along a couple of friends to join the home-coming party. I mean really!! How rude. Many of the challenges to set for yourself leave me in complete awe, and the commitment you make to achieving those goals is so inspiring. Then your closing thought is so true… how very often we get so caught up in achieving the end goal of a challenge that we forget the true reason we joined the challenge whether it was to be more social, to gain knowledge, to meet new people, lose weight or to gain strength… and only remember the number associated with meeting the challenge. Thank you for feeding me food for thought.. Thank you for being you. I still miss SP and reading your posts every day was always a highlight of my day.. Prayers, Love, and Hugs, always and forever Audra

  2. I am always inspired when I read of your challenges and goals. I have not been doing so well doing this for myself, I’m more living day to day… but that often leads to slippage.

Thank you for continuing to blog and feed my motivation!
