Why Me?

Yesterday was my birthday. This particular birthday brought me closer to 60 than 50 and I was approaching it with a little bit of apprehension. I got in my own head a little bit and starting thinking about my mortality and living a healthy life style and experiencing all the things that life still has to offer.

I wrestled with those thoughts briefly then I put on my big girl workout gear and faced those “fears” head on.

As I round the corner to 60, I am committed to living a healthy lifestyle. I am focused on finding the joy in the little things. I will make it my mission to spread kindness and hope.

Yesterday was truly amazing. I headed with Big D, Bella and my coffee and bible app to the waterfront to watch the sun rise. We took turns walking Bella so she could explore and do her thing under the pink and purple skies. When it was Big D’s turn, I sat with my coffee and bible app and spent some quiet reflection time, there was a light cool breeze and it was so very peaceful. The minutes ticked away and the skies turned colors and then there is was this huge orange, glowing ball of light beckoning a new day.

We stayed a bit then headed home so I could grab my gym bag and head out to #cko for my usual Thursday morning session. Being up that early and having 2 cups of coffee in me by this point, may or may not have elevated the session.. but I left there fully invigorated and dripping wet.

Cleaned up a little then hopped on the computer for work. Had a bowl of fat free Greek yogurt with frozen cherries and cinnamon and a tbsp of this berry flavored liquid collagen since I had run out of my powered stuff.

On my lunch hour I grabbed 30 minutes of pool time floating under the sun which now was light yellow, almost white.. then ate 2 slices of mushroom pie from a neighborhood gem which is sadly closing its doors on Monday for the final time.

Quick shower then back to work for a few more hours, until I headed up to see Ryder for a 30 minute visit. We are seeing them today, but I was going right past their house for my work dinner, so I had to stop in, see him bop around, experience his laughter and joy and get a hug and a kiss to completely fill my soul and make my birthday truly perfect.. .mission accomplished.

Headed to dinner where I met up with co-workers I haven’t seen in over a year. It was really great to reconnect. I was greeted with compliments and birthday wishes upon arrival. I guess my boss told them all it was my birthday.

Dinner was lovely, our CFO ordered some shared appetizers for the table and I had just a taste of each, one oyster, a tbsp of the shrimp and avocado, 1 buffalo shrimp and 6 small fried calamari pieces. I ordered one french peach martini and drank water the rest of the night. Dinner was the Chilean Sea Bass special with artichokes, mushrooms and onions over sauteed string beans. It was delectable!

Dinner was a thank you to a core group of employees, we are turning the corner, things are looking up. Our company is in excellent financial position and poised to grow again.

At 830pm, as I sat in between the CFO and my boss, my alarm went off and I pulled my cell phone from my purse and realized it was time to qualify for unemployment. My very last claim, on my birthday for I am back to work full time. Very poetic indeed. 56 is going to be a very, very good year!

John ordered shared desserts for the table, I had one forkful of each, the brownie with vanilla ice cream, the creme brulee and the cheesecake with a cappucino.

As I drove home, I was overwhelmed with how truly special my day was. I was able to craft a day that touched on my very most treasured things. Faith, Family, Friends, Food, Fitness, Fun, Flying.

I was blown away. I am still sitting here in awe asking – why me? Why do I seem to be so very lucky in all things? Why do I have the most amazing experiences, and feel so much joy, in every part of my being? Thank you for the birthday wishes all over social media, from my family and friends reaching out personally, I am truly blessed. I am truly humbled. I am forever grateful for what was, what is and what is yet to come. God is Good!

Hope your day is filled with faith, hope and joy! Be well my friends. Make your life special, make the moments matter. Namaste!

  1. I guess as a scientist, I reckon that sometimes happy things happen, and sometimes sad things happen, and there isnโ€™t necessarily an overarching reason for either, outside of the things we can control.

But that means thereโ€™s all that much more reason to cherish the happy ones… โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™m turning 56 this year too. Itโ€™s funny because that number sounds a lot bigger than how old I feel! ๐Ÿ˜‚

    Happy birthday! ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽ
